What is the difference between the Classic Bed and Classic Daybed?

The Classic Daybed is a twin sized bed, made with the same materials and care as the Classic Bed, that comes with three Pillowboards for versatility and comfort. Though intended to sit between the mattress and wall on one short rail and one long rail, they can be configured however best suits your space. The Classic Headboard is not available for the Classic Daybed at this time.

How much space is under Classic Daybed?

The Classic Daybed has a generous 9" of underbed space, allowing for smart underbed storage. We offer Underbed Storage Bins and Classic Underbed Drawers for organization.

How tall is the Classic Daybed?

The Classic Daybed has 9" of clearance and the top of the rails are 13". There is a 3/4" mattress lip so mattresses will sit on the slats that are about 12 and 1/4" above the ground. The Classic Daybed + Pillowboard has a height of 35" from bottom of the legs to the top of the Pillowboard.

How long does it take to set-up/breakdown the Classic Daybed?

Once you remove the pieces from the packaging, The Classic Daybed can be assembled in around five minutes by one person without tools. For those who prefer to take their time, you're still likely to be all set-up in under fifteen minutes.

Do I need a box spring?

While you can use a box spring with the Classic Daybed, we highly recommend against it. The slats are perfectly spaced at just under 3” apart to evenly hold up your mattress while providing optimum support and breathability.

What color is the Classic Daybed?

The Classic Daybed is available in four timeless finishes—Walnut, Natural, Espresso, and Grey. Because we use 100% real wood, you can expect unique grains and slight color variation. These subtle imperfections are indicative of authentic wood, and should be celebrated. The color will appear slightly warmer in artificial lighting, cooler in natural lighting, and darker in dim lighting.

What is the Pillowboard?

The Pillowboard is an innovative Thuma design that fits perfectly between your mattress and wall (or any flat surface behind your bed). It’s a modern alternative to a more traditional headboard, providing a simple, minimal look and a stable but soft place to lean back and stack pillows against. It’s not attached to the frame, but when used correctly it’s designed to stay in place, while being easily removable, as needed. It can also accommodate for any extrusions (like walls, molding, and window sills) up to 3" in size without any problems.

How strong is the Classic Daybed?

Very strong. The Classic Daybed is designed not to squeak or creak, and has a weight capacity of 1,500 lbs+.

Does the Classic Daybed work with my mattress?

Yes. The Classic Daybed has been designed to work with all mattresses, including foam, bed-in-a-box, spring, hybrids, and traditional mattresses and specifically designed to work with the Hybrid Mattress to keep jutting corners and slats out of sight. The slats are spaced just under 3” apart for optimal support and breathability. All mattress thicknesses will work with the Classic Daybed, with larger mattresses covering up more of The Pillowboard for a minimalist look, and thinner mattresses creating a more accentuated design element. We use standard mattress height (10-11”) in all of our in-house photography.

Will the Classic Underbed Drawer match the Classic Daybed in color?

Yes. Like the Classic Daybed, the Classic Underbed Drawer is available in Walnut, Natural, Espresso, and Grey. The Classic Underbed Drawer is made from the same solid, high-quality, upcycled wood as the Classic Daybed, too. Because we use 100% real wood, you can expect unique grains and slight color variation. These subtle imperfections are indicative of real wood, and should be celebrated.

What size mattress works with the Classic Daybed?

The Classic Daybed was designed to work with a Twin size mattress.

How far into the Classic Daybed does the mattress sit?

The Classic Daybed has an edge measuring 3/4" which is designed specifically to hold the mattress firmly in place.

How do I care for the Classic Daybed?

The Classic Daybed is finished with an oil-based stain that will develop a beautiful patina over time. To maintain this neutral color, it’s best to avoid moisture and keep out of direct sunlight. Using a soft cloth for cleaning is recommended.
