What is the difference between the Essential Bed and Essential Daybed?

The Essential Daybed is a twin sized bed, made with the same materials and care as the Essential Bed, that comes with three Pillowboards for versatility and comfort. Though intended to sit between the mattress and wall on one short rail and one long rail, the Pillowboards can be configured however best suits your space.

How tall is the Essential Daybed?

The Essential Daybed measures 11” in height. The Essential Daybed + Pillowboards measures 33”.

How long does it take to assemble and disassemble the Essential Daybed?

Once you remove the pieces from the packaging, the Essential Daybed can be assembled in approximately 5 minutes by one person. No tools are needed for set-up.

Do I need a box spring?

While you can use a box spring with the Classic Daybed, we highly recommend against it. The slats are perfectly spaced at just under 3” apart to evenly hold up your mattress while providing optimum support and breathability.

What color is the Essential Daybed?

The Essential Daybed is available in four premium finishes—Walnut, Natural, Espresso, and Grey. Because we use 100% real wood, you can expect unique grains and slight color variation. These subtle imperfections are indicative of authentic wood, and should be celebrated. The color will appear slightly warmer in artificial lighting, cooler in natural lighting, and darker in dim lighting.

What is the Pillowboard?

The Pillowboard is an innovative Thuma design that fits perfectly between your mattress and wall (or any flat surface behind your bed). It’s a modern alternative to a more traditional headboard, providing a simple, minimal look and a stable but soft place to lean back and stack pillows against. It’s not attached to the frame, but when used correctly it’s designed to stay in place, while being easily removable, as needed. It can also accommodate for any extrusions (like walls, molding, and window sills) up to 3" in size without any problems.

How strong is the Essential Daybed?

Very strong. The Essential Daybed doesn’t squeak or creak, and has a weight capacity of 1,000 lbs including the mattress.

Does the Essential Daybed work with my mattress?

Yes. The Essential Daybed has been designed to work with all mattresses, including foam, bed-in-a-box, spring, hybrids, and traditional mattresses. The slats are spaced for optimal support and breathability. All mattress thicknesses will work with the Essential Daybed, with taller mattresses covering up more of the Pillowboard, and shorter mattresses creating a more accentuated design element. We use a 9” H mattress for our in-house photography of the Essential Daybed.

What size mattress works with the Essential Daybed?

The Essential Daybed was designed to work with a Twin size mattress.

Is the Essential Daybed GREENGUARD Gold certified?

How do I care for the Essential Daybed?

The Essential Daybed is finished with an oil-based stain that will develop a beautiful patina over time. To maintain this neutral color, it’s best to avoid moisture and keep out of direct sunlight. Using a soft cloth for cleaning is recommended.
